Track and field…the king of athletic organizations

To the most sports of track and field even the completely initiated to sports find it interesting, a fact by no means accidental as it assembles sports of high interest in which the jump of triplicate is being included. A really difficult sport in which, however, Pigi is doing great in the past few years. The “Source” of Greece as some people called her when she gained the silver medal in Athens Olympic Games passed August and it for the sake of our country.

In August of 2004. When with one jump of 15.25m in her fourth effort, she managed to rise up an overcrowded Olympic Stadium that solemnized frantically the conquest of the silver medal.

Biography

Pigi Devetzi is the girl from Alexandroupoli who is being characterized by the insistence – the steadfast will and the greatness of her soul. Such a big soul that continues fighting as more as she is disputed and accepts smacks from both state and federation.

She was ready to say goodbye to sports when in 1996 she was removed from her guest’s room by the Olympic Stadium because she didn’t have the required records and her economic situation couldn’t allow her continue her efforts. Fortunately however, for Greece, her co athletes were more far-sighted from the state and they secretly provided her place to live. It appears however, that all these untilled Pigi who unabashed continues her efforts by making patience and sacrifices.

Two years ago no one counted on her for a medal in the Olympic games of Athens. No one estimated her as a probable Olympic champion. But she didn’t care. Persons with insistence and powerful personality always gain.

That was exactly what Pigi did. After she wandered from trainer to trainer, in face of Sofia Bakatsaki she found the person who believed her and helped her to reach the “Cupreous Medal” in world closed track which took place in Budapest with a jump of “14,73” and in silver in the Olympic Games of Athens with jump “15,25”. The 28 year old athlete “carrying” from preliminary the amazing “15,32” (Third world record of all seasons and National record) she chased a proportional jump and she lost in the details the golden medal from the Cameroonian Francoise Banco Etone, who with jump 15,30m took the first place despite the fact that she had as a best year’s record a jump of 14,85m.

The beginning of award became on March 2003 when she accomplished in the Balkan Games of Closed Track to bring down the National record of Voula Tsiamita. She flew in 14,84 m. This record meant her entry in the elite of the sport. In world games of Paris she was classified 8th with a jump of 14,34m.

Pigi occupied with athletics when she was child, initially with instrumental gymnastics and volleyball and swiftly she turned in the track. She began from 60 m and passed in the 100 , obstacles, she followed the length and she land up in triplicate.
The enormous grin that Pigi did not cease to share and the good meant “craftiness” are not the only things that characterize her. She helps wherever she is called to do so from both institutions and state, and also noiseless in cases she knows. She offered objects to the auction of NET for the areas of Southern eastern Asia, but also in the auction which had been organized by the show “Candidate” for S.O.S. villages.

What Pigi now hopes is the state and serious companies to stand by her so that to provide her the safety she needs in order to continue her difficult fight concentrated and makes us again proud by gaining the golden medal this time.
